slow bacterial infections

چکیده
The idea that several 'idiopathic' or 'autoimmune' diseases are in fact caused by bacteria, probably related to the mycobacteria, which grow very slowly in the host, has been reported for some time. The diseases concerned are rheumatoid arthritis (RA), sarcoidosis, the inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis), psoriasis, Takayasu's arteritis, and conceivably, 'giant cell arteritides', such as polymyalgia rheumatica. New data have increased the appeal of this hypothesis, and technical developments now make it accessible to investigation. The first section of this paper outlines the features of accepted slow bacterial infections, and points out the parallels with RA, inflammatory bowel disease, and sarcoidosis, including the presence of autoantibodies, agalactosyl IgG, and arthritis. The rest of the paper analyses these similarities in greater detail and reviews the evidence for two other crucial points: firstly, that there is altered responsiveness to mycobacteria in RA (and sarcoidosis); secondly, that mycobacteria can exist in forms which are difficult to detect by conventional histological techniques, and difficult to culture, but which are associated with the 'autoimmune' diseases considered here.

An overview of the role of bacterial infection in male infertility
An important cause of male infertility is the bacterial infections of the genitourinary tract. These infections affect sperm cell function and whole spermatogenesis and also cause deterioration in spermatogenesis, obstruction of the seminal tract, and impairment of spermatozoa function. The most important bacteria associated with genitourinary tract infections include chlamydia trachomatis, Nei...
متن کاملEffects of Crowd, smoking, bacterial and fungal infections on COVID-19
The intuition that population density increases the propensity of an epidemic to spread in cities is correct in the sense that increased density likely leads to an increase in the contact rate of an individual, which makes the reproduction number larger and leads to larger infectious disease outbreaks in dense areas. A wealth of research already suggests that smoking suppresses immune function ...
متن کاملImplants modified with polymeric nanofibers coating containing the antibiotic vancomycin
Objective(S): Implant-related infections are disastrous complications in the clinic. One recent strategy to reduce the rate of infection is using the bioactive coating with an antibiotic. The purpose of these bioactive surfaces is to prevent bacterial adhesion to the implant and, consequently, the development of biofilm. In this study, vancomycin-loaded polymeric coating on imp...
متن کاملPrevalence of Bacterial Urinary Tract Infections in Patients before and after of Kidney Transplantation
Abstract Background and Objective: Urinary tract infections and bacteremia are the major problems in renal transplant patients, which are mostly due to immunesuppressive regimens, surgery, and exposure to the germs in hospital. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of bacterial agents in the blood and urine samples of kidney transplant candidates. Material and Methods: In t...
متن کاملHSP Roles as Biomarkers and Antigens in Bacterial and Viral Infections
Diagnosis of infectious diseases remains an important issue in medical science. Identification of biomarkers can be used to predict early infections. Recently, heat shock proteins (HSPs) have been known as the conserved compounds expressed under stress conditions in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic systems. These proteins act as molecular chaperones. Several studies showed the increased levels o...
